How to Calculate Curtain Fabric in Meters
If you buy fabric in Europe, Australia, or most parts of Asia, fabric width is sold in centimeters and yardage in meters. The calculation works the same way as imperial, but with metric numbers.
Formula: (Window width in cm × fullness ratio) ÷ fabric width in cm = widths per panel (round up). Then multiply by (drop + hem + header) × number of panels, divide by 100 to get meters.
Example: A 90 cm wide window with 2x fullness using 140 cm fabric: (90 × 2) ÷ 140 = 1.29 1 width. If drop is 150 cm with 10 cm hem and 8 cm header: each panel = 168 cm. One panel = 168 cm = 1.68 meters. With 10% waste: 1.85 meters. Buy 2 meters.
Metric Curtain Yardage Chart
| Window Size (cm) | Panels | Fabric Width | Meters Needed |
|---|---|---|---|
| 60 × 90 cm | 1 | 140 cm | 1.0 m |
| 90 × 150 cm | 1 | 140 cm | 1.75 m |
| 120 × 210 cm | 1 | 140 cm | 2.4 m |
| 180 × 200 cm | 2 | 140 cm | 4.5 m |
| 240 × 240 cm | 2 | 140 cm | 5.5 m |
Based on 2x fullness, 10 cm hem, 8 cm header, 10% waste. Use the calculator above for exact results.
