Grommet Curtain Fabric Yardage Calculator

Calculate fabric for grommet curtains. Grommet tape adds a 4-5" header allowance for the grommet band — accounted for in this guide.

How to Calculate Fabric for Grommet Curtains

Grommet curtains use the same formula as standard curtains, with one difference: the header allowance is typically 4-5 inches to accommodate the grommet tape, compared to 3 inches for rod pocket curtains.

Grommet Curtain Fabric Formula:
Widths needed = (Window Width × Fullness) ÷ Fabric Width (round up)
Cut length per panel = Drop + Hem (4") + Grommet Header (5") + Bottom Hem (4")
Total yards = Cut length × Widths × Panels ÷ 36 × (1 + Waste%)

Grommet Spacing Guide

For professional-looking grommet curtains, space grommets 6-8 inches apart. For a standard 54" fabric width panel: use 7-8 grommets spaced 6-7 inches apart. Grommet inner diameter of 1.5-2 inches works for most curtain rods up to 1.5" diameter.
